Fragrance Families

One of the questions the customer service team at Aromatize are asked a lot is, “Which is your favourite?”. This could be in relation to melters, candles, or personal care products. The answer isn’t always straightforward! We all know what the best-sellers in our ranges are, but delving into our personal preferences is a different matter. Particularly when it comes to fragrance.

Throughout the home fragrance and perfume industry, we use a classification known as ‘Fragrance Families’. Paul Jellinek, an Austrian perfume expert, is credited with creating the first fragrance wheel. This tool categorises fragrances into four main families and their sub-families.

Traditionally, the four main scent families consist of; amber, floral, fresh, and woody. However, at Aromatize we use slightly different descriptions, to try and make the system very user-friendly. For instance, fruity scents would fall under the floral category, even though these scents can be wildly different.

 

Fruits and Citrus

From crisp refreshing lemon to sweet juicy strawberries, this is the largest grouping we have. We find that users are easily able to pinpoint a keynote in their favourite aromas and we find it’s best to have a dedicated department for that reason.

 

Fresh and Outdoors

‘Fresh’ covers a wide range of scents, so in this category, there can be overlap with fragrances found elsewhere. A lot of our Woodbridge Tumbler Candle Jars fall into this department as the focus with this range was on subtle, clean fragrances. Here you will find fragrances reminiscent of the beach and clean laundry scents.

 

Floral

Many of our fragrances have a floral note in them, but only when you can smell the distinct softness of a particular flower would we class it as a floral.

 

Home Comforts

Our Home Comforts department contains many best-selling fragrances. This department contains the fragrances of the Amber and Woody categories. Warming fragrances, aftershave-like scents, and fragrances with a spicy note.

 

Gourmet

A group of mouth-watering scents! Think bakery scents, sweet vanilla, honey & almond. If you have a sweet tooth, this is the department for you. 

 

Festive

This department certainly doesn’t fit into the fragrance wheel. To make buying a little easier, we have a department for all things festive. Everything from Cinnamon to Pine, if it reminds you of Christmas, it’s here!
