You may already know that we have a beautiful showroom in our Aromatize head office, we also have a photography room and a board room (which we use as a second photography room!). What you may not know, is that we also take our products onto location photoshoots.
Sometimes, that’s as easy as a walk in the woods with our Sleep Sakes plush toys. (Have you seen our gorgeous photos on our social pages?) However, sometimes it taking boxes of products to the home of a friend or family member.
We recently did a location shoot for our Michel Design Works range and I thought I’d share some insight into what that entails.
Before the shoot – We look for great lighting and a fabulous colour palette. White shots and grey backgrounds can be achieved in our studio, when we are off on location we look for colour, great backgrounds, and fabulous furnishings. Lifestyle shots, as they are known, really help to sell a product and allow us to imagine how items will look within the home. Once we have picked a location, Chetna will go visit and take some preliminary shots to get a feel of the venue and start to plan the shoot.
At the shoot – A shoot can take days. We take boxes of stock, plus props that may come in useful. Blocks to add height, trays, books, towels, plants and flowers, you name it! We then utilise items found at the location, which helps to bring that comforting feel to our photos. Sometimes, we have to think outside the box, on our last shoot, we had to balance items on a bin to get the height needed for a perfect shot. On the MDW shoot, I turned the shower on myself! It’s not always glamorous behind the scenes.
After the shoot – Once we’ve finished, and put every cushion, coaster, and toothbrush back in its rightful place, we head back to the office. Chetna will take hundreds of shots in a day, it’s another mammoth task to narrow these down. She makes sure nothing is blurred, that the backgrounds are clear, and that the product is shown of to its full potential.
These final images are used in many different ways. We change the website images every three months, post on social media, produce two catalogues a year, monthly newsletters, and advertise with industry magazines and websites.
